Activities
Currently CAS offers amongst others:
1. Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG) Project
CAS holds the Community Legal Services’ Quality Mark for Assisted Information and” Matrix” Accreditation for IAG.
As a grass root organisation and community first point of contact, this project provides cultural appropriate Advice, Guidance , Advocacy and support on various issues such as Education, Training, and Employment, Housing and Welfare rights, form filling service and encourages the community accessing other available local services2. Children and Young People’s Project.
This project offers Drop In Centre and facilities with a mix of attractive initiatives for children to play, socialise and express themselves through art, dance, music, drama and poems.
Homework Clubs, Learning and behaviour support, Holidays and Leisure activities and parent’s support are additional comportments within our Youth Project.3. Integrated Sexual reproduction and Teenage Pregnancy awareness Project
This project is run in partnership with the local authorities and other national and local organisations such as THT, WOI to improve Young people access to information and services and contribute towards the reduction in number of teenage pregnancy within the borough. The following activities are available: One 2 one, Free Condoms and literature, workshops and discussions
4. Education and Training Project
CAS delivers a range of training courses from Basic/foundation level to nationally recognised qualifications level. Some courses are delivered in partnership with other local Training Providers
5. Volunteering and Volunteer Training project
This project is to improve support for volunteers, recognise individuals values and strengthen and extend their participation and contribution to the social, economic, environmental and cultural capital.
As many other volunteer Organisations, CAS depends on Volunteers and Sessional
Workers for the bulk of its projects and activities. It also recognises the lack of experience and skills within the community and the need of volunteering in order to acquire skills, knowledge and experience especially during this time of economic downturn.
All our Volunteers are CRB checked and those will be Volunteers will be required to do so. They go through an induction and a compulsory programme covering areas such as:
• Communication and general office skills
• Client/services users care skills
• Health and safety,
• Equal opportunity and good practice
• Confidentiality
• Effective call handling and listening skills
• Many more skills corresponding to individual area of interest6. Capacity building, networking and partnership
CAS is a member of B&D Council for Voluntary Sector, B&D Refugee providers Network , Ethnic Minority Partnership Agency (EMPA), CLS Network, Youth Project worker forum, The Public health Forum and liaises with various local organisations and social enterprises
